#124 - "WINTER ROAD" - Winter on the road to the ranch at Llano Quemado (suburban Truchas). My first winter there was an unknown -- I bought a little freezer from Sears and filled it to the brim with groceries. Foresight was rewarded when it snowed for days over the Christmas holidays -- the snowplow didn't come through for a week -- the wood was stacked on the porch, the fireplace kept the little adobe house warm and cozy, and many pots of green chile stew made for quite a comfortable existence. I might add a lot of good books and great music added another measure of enjoyment -- solitude is so underrated!

My Truchas neighbor, Don Eusavio, bringing his wood in for the day -- every morning he would hammer away at some project in his barn, when the apricots were ripe he would don his orange baseball cap and he would climb the tree to fill his little green bucket. Spring ,summer, fall and winter - each season fell into the other; just observing Don Eusavio's quiet routines taught me a new way to live --

UNA SENDA DESCONOCIDO - Click here to visit HIGH ROAD PRINT CATALOGUE
Long, long ago, after moving to New Mexico, I discovered the mystery and fascination of back roads
- some led to quiet pastures, and some to old churches, capillas, ghost towns--
old crumbling buildings, broken fences -- signs of lives having lived in another time
-- places where all you can hear is the wind and perhaps the whisper of birds' wings as they pass by overhead.......these roads always seem to appear at the beginning of one's journey.......
